I have a diploma in both holistic massage and Aromatherapy, which offer me a lot of different skills to utilise during each session. At times it may be appropriate to add some essential oils to your session.  When coupled with the principles of massage therapy, aromatherapy may help you feel even better.

A little bit of Information on Holistic Massage: The word ‘Holistic’ means to look at the ‘Whole’ of something.

This means that this form of massage therapy is designed to treat the whole of a person. Not just physical issues, not just certain mental aspects, but the spiritual and emotional well-being of the client too. Holistic massage therapy is “an individual treatment that is specifically tailored to each client” and considers their mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.

The holistic approach to massage therapy can touch an individual’s whole being – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It holds the possibility of reintegration, is person-centred and is guided by principles of sensitivity, awareness and quality of touch.

Aromatherapy is based around Holistic Massage but with the additional power of essential oils applied directly to the skin. Your therapist will mix a blend of oils specifically for each session and designed to help achieve your goals whether it be relaxation, reenergising or releasing muscular tension.

Before a therapist even lays hands on you, they will make an appointment to sit and talk with you. They will ask a lot of questions, covering your medical history, lifestyle, what you’re looking to achieve with the therapy and more.

Each massage is tailored to each individual client. The massage draws from a wide range of massage techniques. During a session, your therapist will use various techniques to promote relaxation, improve circulation, and relieve tension.

The core principles are similar to a Swedish massage. The goal is to improve circulation, stimulate lymphatic drainage, and work on any areas of tissue that need some attention.

It is important to drink plenty of water afterwards to ensure you’re hydrated. It’s normal to feel a little lightheaded too, especially after your first session.
